Further delays postpone Curtis' celebrations
27/06/2006
American Ben Curtis has been forced to wait yet another 12 hours before he can finally clinch his first title in three years.
The 2003 British Open champion, who hasn't won an event since then, currently holds a seven-shot lead through 16 on his final round at the weather-delayed Booz Allen Classic in Maryland.
Sunday's finale had been delayed with Curtis leading by eight with six to play but yesterday's planned conclusion was also interrupted and Curtis will now have to wait until later today to complete the triumph.
Rounds of 62, 65 and 67 have seen Curtis top the $5 million event's leaderboard from the off and he has so far carded five birdies during his final round and has even been able to afford a double bogey six on the 12th.
Ireland's Padraig Harrington and American Billy Andrade are his nearest rivals for the prize but they are both in the club house on 15-under-par, well behind Curtis' 22-under leading pace.
Brian Davis is one of only two Englishmen competing in Maryland and he closed in a very respectable tied 34th place after shooting a final round 67 to end on seven-under-par.
Lee Westwood, his fellow countryman, had earlier continued to struggle in the US and missed the weekend cut.
