Furyk in contention as Bohn leads Wachovia Championship
03/05/2008
Jason Bohn leads the Wachovia Championship by two shots at the halfway stage of the tournament on nine-under-par.
The American is ahead of Anthony Kim, while Jim Furyk is among a trio of players on six-under-par.
All of the current leading five players carded second rounds of five-under on day two, but overnight leader David Toms dropped back to 25th place following his round of three-over.
Bohn has struggled with his putting in recent months, following a rib injury last season, but adding an extra inch to his putter seems to have helped his confidence.
The 35-year-old made six birdies during his second round, four of them on the front nine, and dropped just one shot at the 12th hole.
Although he has changed his putting technique it was the mental barrier Bohn was most pleased to have overcome.
He explained: "It was getting out of hand. I was starting to lose some confidence. Putting is a little bit technique, but it's so much confidence. If you think you can make it, you're probably going to make it."
Furyk will hope he is in a good position to move up the leaderboard and claim his first title of the season. His best finish so far in 2008 is a tie for second at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship.
The current world number eight won the Wachovia Championship in 2006 and is in contention to repeat the feat again this year.
British players Justine Rose, Luke Donald and Paul Casey all missed the cut, as did Masters champion Trevor Immelman.
