GBI dominate singles to win Seve Trophy

30/09/2007

Great Britain and Ireland swept the field on the final day of the Seve Trophy, winning by 16 and a half points to 11 and a half at the Heritage course in Ireland.

Entering the final day of the tournament trailing by one point, Nick Faldo's team overwhelmed the Continental Europe line-up to win seven of the ten singles matches.

Among the victors was Colin Montgomerie, who beat Robert Karlsson by one hole to notch up his first win in four attempts since Thursday.

Paul Casey followed up immediately with a comfortable 3&2 victory over Raphael Jacquelin and further wins followed courtesy of Marc Warren, Nick Dougherty and Graeme Storm.

By the time Continental Europe managed to prevent Great Britain and Ireland from winning one of the day's matches, when Markus Brier held Phillip Archer to an all-square scoreline, the trophy had already been won by Great Britain and Ireland yet again.

Justin Rose finished off proceedings with a 2&1 win over Miguel Angel Jiminez, just before Peter Hanson took the only European win by one hole against Oliver Wilson.

Not since 2000 have Continental Europe won the Seven Trophy and the tally now stands at 4-1 in favour of Great Britain and Ireland.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18299157-ADNFCR
