Garcia in contention in Mallorca
20/10/2006
Sergio Garcia has carded a second successive 70 to ensure he heads into the weekend at the Mallorca Classic on level par and very much in contention.
The world number ten is still searching for his first win of the season but he is hopeful of ending that barren run at the Jose Maria Olazabal-redesigned Pula golf club this week.
And his hopes were booted after today's consistent round which comprised a single birdie and one bogey on the back nine to leave him within just three shots of the clubhouse lead.
"I knew two rounds of level par would not be that bad because I've played here before," said Garcia, who won here in 2004.
"Ten under par won last year, it's not a low scoring course and with the changes and the conditions it's even tougher.
"I think level par is going to be close to the lead, I don't see many players shooting 66 or 68 out there this afternoon. The best score yesterday afternoon was 69 and the conditions are going to be similar."
Overnight leaders Niclas Fasth and Gary Murphy have maintained their advantages but both failed to repeat yesterday's storming 66s.
The pair both shot 71s to slip to three under overall with Marc Warren now occupying second one shot back after his decent 68.
