Goosen leads by one shot in Shanghai

11/11/2006

Retief Goosen leads the HSBC Champions Tournament by one shot heading into the final round, with Yang Yong-Eun of Korea and Jyoti Randhawa of India leading the chasing pack.

Goosen has been competitive all week and shot a three-under round that included five birdies and two dropped strokes to improve two places on his over night position.

Conditions were windy and not conducive to low scoring so the South African said he was more than happy with the round he put together.

Yesterday Tiger Woods had tied the course record with a round of eight under par. He could not repeat the trick today, however, falling down the list to tie for fifth place having managed a one over par round.

European Order of Merit winner Padraig Harrington is a further shot behind Woods, as is England's Luke Donald.

Leader Goosen said after his round: "Whenever you're leading going into the final round, it's great."

"I've got somebody tomorrow that I have to watch out that I don't know. Yang is obviously playing extremely well and I'm going to have to watch out. Obviously Tiger is still in there. We know what he's capable of. We just have to see what the weather is going to be tomorrow. Hopefully it's not as windy and cold as it was today."

Scotland's Marc Warren perhaps has a chance to catch Goosen as he is just three shots off the pace and a win would be his first on the full tour having graduated from playing on the challenge tour last season.
