Greg Norman: The pressure is on the rest

19/07/2008

Having put himself unexpectedly into second place in the Open, veteran Greg Norman insists the pressure will remain on his competitors and not him.

Norman claims he has no expectations and did not think he would be in a position to compete for his third claret jug at the start of the tournament.

The Australian, who carded his second consecutive round of level par on Friday at Royal Birkdale, said he would continue to enjoy himself over the weekend.

Norman said: "My expectations were almost nil coming in, to tell you the truth, and they are still realistically low.

"There will be more pressure [Saturday] and Sunday. But there's probably less pressure on me than on anybody out there because although I'm in the position I am, I'm going to go out there and say: 'Hey, just go and have fun with it'."

Korea's KJ Choi birdied the final two holes to become one of just 11 players to register a score below par on the second day.

His three-under score put him on one-under-par for the championships and secured him a one shot lead over Norman at the top of the leaderboard.

Conditions continue to be testing but Choi believes the key to success is to stay patient and not play too aggressively.

He said: "I don't think I've ever led in a major but, with the experience of playing in numerous other majors before, I think the key thing I've learned is to stay patient."

The low scoring means 15 players are all within four shots of the leader at the halfway stage of the tournament.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18692365-ADNFCR
