Hansen triumphs in PGA Championship
27/05/2007
Anders Hansen has won the PGA Championship at Wentworth for the second time in five years after beating Justin Rose in a sudden death play-off.
The Dane held his nerve on the first play-off hole with a 12-foot putt to clear the 18th in four shots, while Rose could only manage par.
Torrid weather conditions and driving rain made for an error-strewn display at Wentworth, allowing Hansen and Rose to overtake the overnight leaders and card final day rounds of 69 and 71 respectively.
South African Richard Sterne and Vijay Singh tied for third on seven-under, with the Fijian carding seven birdies in his last round for a score of 66.
Hansen looked to have won outright with a coolly-taken putt on the final hole, but Rose matched his opponent to take the tournament into a sudden death play-off.
On his winning putt, Hansen, who won his only other European tour event at Wentworth in 2002, said: "I felt pretty calm in the play-off, but I was just lucky I made the putt on the 18th and Justin didn't.
"It looked good all the way - my caddy and I found the line and it rolled in."
