Harrington targets second major

06/02/2008

Padraig Harrington says he is determined to build on his win at the British Open last year and is continuing to work on his swing.

Harrington explained that his success at Carnoustie has caused him to re-evaluate his goals and now wants to add more majors to his Open Championship title.

The Irishman said: "You would think winning a major would mellow you, it's done the opposite to me. It's made me even more obsessive.

"There's a huge incentive to push on. I don't think I have that attitude of some guys who are trying to prove they deserved to win it. But I certainly have the attitude that I really want to win another."

Harrington has missed a number of tournaments at the start of the season due to injury and illness but says he is ready to begin his 2008 campaign in earnest at the Pebble Beach tournament this week.

Despite having found a winning formula last season Harrington has continued to work on his swing, claiming it is an off-season ritual he does regardless of his results, as he searches for anything that will help him improve.

The 36-year-old insisted there would be no resting on his laurels and said he was determined to challenge Tiger Woods in this year's majors.

"It would have been nice to chill out and take some of the glory of it all and be confident. But that's not the way my system works," said Harrington.

Harrington says there is a great depth of talent amongst the players behind Woods in the rankings and the world number one will have to work hard to achieve further success this season.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18457541-ADNFCR
