Home favourite Hanson wins SAS Masters
18/08/2008
Swedish golfer Peter Hanson has won the SAS Masters title in Stockholm by one shot from Englishman Nick Dougherty.
The overnight leader shot a one-over-par 71 in windy conditions on the final day to finish on nine under par - holding off the challenge of Dougherty, who could manage only a par round of 70.
Hanson, who became the first Swedish winner of the tournament in a decade, also finished one shot clear of countryman Pelle Edberg despite double-bogeying the 11th and carding bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes.
Edberg matched Dougherty's round by finishing even par on the day but was unable to overturn his compatriot's four-shot lead over the final eight holes.
Fellow Britons Paul Broadhurst and Sam Walker of England and Gary Orr of Scotland tied for fourth at seven under.
And on his professional debut, Chris Wood - the 20-year-old who came fifth at the Open last month - finished a credible 18th on three under par for the tournament.
