Howell on course in Munich
02/09/2006
Defending champion David Howell is well placed going into the third round of the BMW International Open in Munich after carding a second-round 69 to reach eight under overall.
Britain's leading golfer now sits just one shot off the leader, Swede Martin Erlandsson, and among a five-man group in second place.
Spain's Alejandro Canizares, Denmark's Soren Hansen and Swede Mattias Eliasson also share second place.
Meanwhile, Erlandsson, whose best finish to date remains second in last year's Celtic Manor Wales Open, admitted to feeling the nerves going into the weekend as the leader.
"I did start out a little bit intense today but I managed to get an early birdie and from there on I tried to relax and I'll try to do that tomorrow as well," he said after yesterday's round.
"It is an old cliche but I am trying just to concentrate on one shot at a time and not get too far ahead of myself. That's the key for me I think."
English duo Luke Donald and Paul Casey are also well placed after they both closed day two on seven-under-par overall.
Ryder Cup star Donald carded a 69 to add to his first-round 68 while Casey, who has also secured his place at the K Club, followed up his opening-round 70 with a superb 67.
