Hull stun Bradford to reach Challenge Cup semis
01/06/2008
Hull are through to the Challenge Cup semi-finals after a 22-16 win over Bradford at Odsal.
The visitors led 16-6 at the break thanks to tries from Matt Sing and Tom Bryne.
Sing grabbed his second to increase Hull's lead before the Bulls came roaring back with Tame Tupou and Paul Sykes touching down, but it was not enough to prevent defeat.
The opening exchanges were nip-and-tuck, with two penalties from Iestyn Harris cancelled out by Danny Tickle.
Both sides were guilty of indiscipline with referee Steve Ganson sin-binning Ben Jefferies, along with Hull duo Lee Radford and Jamie Thackray.
Despite having a man less, Hull scored the first try when Sing intercepted a wayward pass from Harris and sprinted 80 yards to score.
And they opened a ten-point lead at the break when Bryne finished off a sweeping move to crash over.
Hull continued where they left off and increased their lead on 43 minutes when Tickle off-loaded to Sing who touched down in the right-hand corner.
The home side started their fightback on 55 minutes when 19-year-old Sam Burgess set-up Tupou to score.
Terry Newton's try was then disallowed by the video referee for offside, before Sykes crossed the line on 79 minutes to reduce the deficit.
But Hull clung on in stoppage time to join Leeds, St Helens and Wakefield in the semi-finals.
