Immelman maintains Masters lead but Woods closes in
13/04/2008
Trevor Immelman has maintained his lead of the US Masters after carding a third round of three-under-par to head the field on 11-under.
The South African is two shots ahead of Brandt Snedeker who shot a round of two-under on day three.
However four-time Masters champion Tiger Woods has worked his way up the leaderboard and will be stalking Immelman throughout the final round.
Woods moved into fifth place after carding a third round of 68, his best of the week so far, and although he remains six shots off the lead he is in position to capitalise should those ahead of him slip up.
Also in contention for the title is England's Paul Casey. He shot his second successive round of 69 and is currently in fourth place on seven-under-par, four shots adrift of Immelman.
The South African enjoyed a steady round and he held his nerve despite the pressure of leading a major tournament for the first time.
Immelman dropped a shot at the fourth hole but made a birdie at the eighth and three more on the back nine to solidify his position at the top of the leaderboard.
Casey began his round well, making four birdies on the front nine, he held the joint lead midway through the round but an inconsistent back nine hurt his prospects as he made three bogeys and two birdies.
Snedeker made three bogeys in a row just after the turn but recovered to make three birdies late in the day to maintain his second place.
Steve Flesch is in third place on eight-under after making four birdies and one bogey in his round of 69.
