Jacquelin leads in Shanghai
19/04/2007
Raphael Jacquelin continued his excellent form in 2007 with a six-under-par round of 66 to take the lead on the opening day of the Asian Open in Shanghai.
The Frenchman is one shot clear of Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen, who was on course for a share of the lead until he bogeyed the 18th at the Shanghai Pudong golf club.
Jacquelin was second at the Portugal Open in Estoril two weeks ago and led over the first two days of last week's tournament at the nearby Shanghai Silport course.
And again he has established himself at the head of the field with a back-nine 32 in a round featuring seven birdies.
His countryman, Gregory Havret, joins Korea's Lee Sung-man and Australian Gavin Flint in a tie for third on the leaderboard.
Scotland's Colin Montgomerie finds himself in a group of six players who are three shots behind the leader after a three-under round of 69 on the first day.
The South African pair of Ernie Els and Retief Goosen are still in touch after each finished with a round of 71, along with Wales' Mark Pilkington and Garry Houston, and England's Simon Dyson and Ireland's Damien McGrane are both also in the mix on two-under.
However Englishman Paul Casey is struggling on level par after a disappointing first round.
