Jacquelin rockets up world rankings
23/04/2007
France's Raphael Jacquelin has seen his world ranking soar after winning the Asian Open in Shanghai over the weekend.
The 32-year-old has risen 43 places in the latest world rankings, up to 61st after starting last week outside the world's top 100 players.
Jacquelin is also up to seventh in the European Tour Order of Merit after recording his second career title victory in China.
The victory and subsequent ranking boost caps an excellent start to the 2007 season for the Frenchman.
He finished second to Spanish amateur Pablo Martin at the Portugal Open in Estoril at the end of March, tied for sixth at the China Open two weeks later and then dominated the Asian Open from start to finish at the weekend.
Another player to benefit from a career-defining victory at the weekend was American Nick Watney.
The Californian, who turned professional in 2003, recorded his first career tournament win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans at the Louisiana TPC.
That victory rocketed him up the FedEx Cup points race from 84th overall to 12th. It also boosted his world ranking position by 57 places, pushing him inside the top 100 for the first time. He is now 93rd.
