Jacquelin wins Asian Open
22/04/2007
Raphael Jacquelin has won the Asian Open in Shanghai by two strokes.
Jacquelin, who dominated from the start of the tournament and held the lead since the first day, finished with a one-over-par 73 to finish on ten under.
The Frenchman ended two shots clear of Danish Soren Kjeldsen, who also carded a final-round 73, and three shots ahead of Scotland's Simon Yates and Australian Scott Hend.
"It is a fantastic moment," said Jacquelin, who battled heavy rain and gusty conditions to claim his second victory on the European Tour.
"It is difficult to take the lead in the first round and keep it to the last. When you are in a position to win it is always difficult to finish but to be a winner you have to finish. I am really happy."
World number five, Ernie Els, finished joint fifth after seeing his challenge fall away early in his round.
"I need to get off to a good start but unfortunately I three-putted the second hole," the 2005 winner said.
Scotland's Colin Montgomerie also suffered, carding a five-over-par final round of 77 to finish in a tie for 15th.
