Japan's Kiyota moves into one-shot lead in New Delhi

01/03/2008

Taichiro Kiyota has moved to the top of the leaderboard in the Johnnie Walker Classic in New Delhi after carding 67 for the second round running.

The unheralded Japanese player scored four birdies and an eagle to overtake overnight leaders Shiv Kapur and Uhno Park.

"Tonight will be a sleepless night," the 27-year-old told reporters through a translator. "I'm very excited."

One shot behind Kiyota on 13-under overall are home favourite Jyoti Randhawa and New Zealander Mark Brown.

Englishmen Phillip Archer and Graeme Storm – who both carded rounds of three-under-par - share joint fourth place with Australia's Greg Chalmers, while Vijay Singh is slightly off the pace on nine-under.

Archer put in a topsy-turvy round of six birdies and three bogeys, while Storm was steadier with four birdies and one bogey.

Storm's round defied an illness he admitted had affected his game.

"I've just done that on adrenaline, I think," he said afterwards, "I felt so bad and I didn't think I was going to play this morning but I got something off the physios and that seemed to help a little bit.

"I don't know whether it's the food or a bug that's going around because everyone seems to be getting a dose of it. I'm not sure what it is."

Even players affected by the illness will have sympathy for Gaurav Ghei, who was disqualified for signing for an incorrect score during yesterday's second round.

The disqualification came after Ghei's seven-under-par of 65 had put him back among the leaders on nine-under.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18490967-ADNFCR
