Johnson misses cut at John Deere Classic
14/07/2007
US Masters champion Zach Johnson missed the cut at the John Deere classic after failing to ignite the course, finishing on one-under par after two rounds.
Australia's Nathan Green leads the tournament on 12-under after carding a round of eight-under on day two of the event in Illinois.
Johnson was the tournament's main attraction as most of the leading golfers on the USPGA tour are in Europe preparing for next week's British Open at Carnoustie.
But a round of 71 to back up his one-under score from day one was not enough to keep the 31-year-old in the tournament.
He said: "I don't have the feel. That's frustrating. My fundamentals are fine. I've just got to get the feel down."
Green returned to the tour after taking a three week break in Australia which the player says has revitalised him.
That was apparent from the five birdies he holed on the front nine. Two further birdies at the tenth and 14th holes gave him a tie for the lead, before he picked up another shot at the par-five 17th to pull away from Carl Petterssen and Jason Dufner who share second place.
Green said: ''Before I went home, the US Open was my last event and I was frustrated and stressed out and not really enjoying playing. That was the reason for the break.''
The 32-year-old is still seeking his first win on the American tour and has never lead at the halfway stage of a USPGA event.
