Lynn storms to French Open lead with round of 65
27/06/2008
Englishman David Lynn carded a brilliant second round 65 to grab a share of the lead at the French Open at Paris.
Lynn fired seven birdies and only one bogey in a fine round which now sees him head the leader-board on seven-under-par alongside Pablo Larrazabal.
A back nine 31 and a final hole birdie from the bunker by Lynn turned what was looking like an average round into an excellent round.
But Lynn faces a tough battle to lift the trophy on Sunday as there are a number of big names breathing down his neck
Lee Westwood, Angel Cabrera, Colin Montgomerie and Peter Lawrie are all on five-under-par.
Montgomerie, who has publicly been vocal about his recent run of poor form, was much happier with his performance today, which saw him end with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes.
"I had 16 holes of utter, utter frustration and I hate to say the birdies were deserved, but the way I played that was the very minimum I deserved," said Montgomerie.
"That was as good as I can play from tee to green. I've hit 33 greens in regulation out of 36 round here, which is back to the way that I used to play and win tournaments - through lack of mistakes.
"It wasn't the amount of putts that I holed, it was the amount of mistakes I didn't make. That's good, that's the way that I like to play golf."
