Matteson forges ahead of Rose in Florida
22/10/2006
In-form American Troy Matteson leads the Funai Walt Disney classic by one shot while one-time leader, Justin Rose, is a further two shots behind.
Matteson is on a hot streak at the minute and has top ten finishes in the past three events, which include winning his first PGA Tour title last week in Las Vegas.
He has played consistently well this week and carded his second seven-under round in a row to take him to 19 under for the tournament.
The tour rookie said: "To win out here once is pretty difficult. To do it two or three or four times, it's extremely difficult."
Matteson even has a chance to qualify for the US Masters if he can finish in the top 40 on the money list. He is currently 71st and a win this weekend would move him further up.
Long time leader Justin Rose is two shots back having shot an even par score, but the Englishman still has a realistic chance of winning.
He said after the round: "I just wasn't quite on the boil. I had to be really patient, hang in there, and after being two over through nine, I felt I did a decent job."
Joe Durant will form the final pairing with Matteson on Sunday having shot an eight under round which leaves him one shot behind the overall lead.
Crowd favourite Davis Love III also went round in 64 leaving him tied for fourth place with Charles Howell III, three shots off the lead and ready to pounce on any mistakes.
