McGrane takes over Delhi lead
08/02/2008
Ireland's Damien McGrane shot a three-under-par second round at the Indian Masters to take a two-shot at the tournament's halfway stage.
McGrane, who was tied for second overnight after a first-round score of 67, had four birdies and one bogey on the front nine to surge ahead before a less conspicuous run-in saw him finish on even par between the tenth and 18th holes.
He took advantage of a slump from home favourite Jyoti Randhawa, who topped the leaderboard after day one.
The Indian native endured a nightmare round of 77, five over par, which included a triple-bogey seven at the sixth hole.
McGrane's lead is two shots from France's Raphael Jacquelin, South Africa's Hendrik Buhrmann and Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell, who, like the leader, all shot steady two-under-par rounds of 69.
England's Benn Barham is part of a six man group who are tied for sixth on four under par overall.
And another Northern Irishman, Darren Clarke, is well in contention a further shot back in joint 12th.
Despite another relatively disappointing round of 70, South Africa's Ernie Els has made the cut at one over par overall. His first day was spoiled by a poor round of 75, three over par.
