Mickelson 'fit for Open'
12/07/2007
World number three Phil Mickelson says he will be fit to play in the Open Championships next week, despite his troublesome wrist.
The American suffered an injury to the joint in the lead-up to the US Open last month, and it hampered his progress at Oakmont.
It also resulted in him missing the cut at his next two events and although Mickelson admitted it was not fully healed, he denied it would be a problem for him.
"It's OK, not 100 per cent," he said. "But I don't think it will affect my shots."
On his own personal website, Mickelson also revealed how he was planning to take a short week's practice leading up to the Scottish Open this week, in order to be certain of his fitness for Carnoustie.
"This revision to my course prep may work out great because I should be even fresher and able to put forth the solid major championship effort that I expect to make every time out," he wrote.
"Obviously, after what happened at Oakmont in May, I'm going to be more careful about how I play the course but I'll be able to get in all my course prep and strategy work as usual."
Mickelson is planning to play the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond this week as preparation for the major next Thursday.
He will be part of a talented field of players, including fellow top-ten professionals Padraig Harrington and Luke Donald.
