Monty and Poulter both miss cut at Johnnie Walker Classic

29/02/2008

A number of big names have missed the cut at the Johnnie Walker Classic in New Delhi, including Scotland's Colin Montgomerie.

The veteran and Ryder Cup regular endured a second consecutive over-par round in India, carding a four-over 76 to add to his 74 from the first day.

Ian Poulter also missed out, despite an excellent second round in which he finished four under par for the day.

However, the Englishman's poor form on the first day, in which he carded a four-over-par round of 76 cost him dearly as he could finish only on even par. The cut meant any player with a score above two under par was eliminated.

Ireland's Paul McGinley finished on two over par through his 36 holes, despite finishing even on day two, while Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell also missed out after carding a one-over-par 73 on Friday.

Overnight leader Shamim Khan was also knocked out of the competition after slumping to a four-over-par 76 on the second day, despite an impressive 67 on the first day.

Frenchmen Thomas Levet and Jean van de Velde also failed to earn two more rounds this weekend.

At the top of the leaderboard, home favourite Shiv Kapur has moved into a share of the lead with Australia's Unho Park on ten under par.

Kapur fired a bogey-free round of 65, in which he picked up an eagle three on the sixth hole, while Park enjoyed eight birdies in his six-under-par round of 66 on the second day.

Another Indian player, Jyoti Randhawa is in contention on nine under par through the first two rounds.

Australian world number five Adam Scott is nicely poised two shots off the lead, alongside England's Graeme Storm.

And fellow Englishmen Phillip Archer (eight under par) and Richard Finch (seven under par) are also in a good position ahead of the last two rounds over the weekend.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18490258-ADNFCR
