Monty misses cut in Scotland
13/07/2007
Colin Montgomerie has crashed out of the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond.
Five days after winning the European Open, the 44-year-old carded a second round of 74 to miss the cut.
Frenchman Gregory Havret and Spain's Jose-Manuel Lara share the lead on ten under, one stroke clear of American Phil Mickelson.
Montgomerie, who started the day four shots off the lead on two under, was three under after seven holes.
But ahead of next week's Open at Carnoustie, the Scot then had a disaster and finished with four bogeys.
Montgomerie said: "I hit 27 out of 28 fairways but I just didn't putt well at all."
Frenchman Havret failed to drop a shot for a second day and fired a seven-under 64.
Lara, who like Havret is hoping to clinch the final spot for the Open, carded 65 including an eagle on the par-five 13th.
England's Simon Khan is on eight under while Lee Westwood made just two birdies in his round of 74.
South African Ernie Els, who is on seven under, said he was pleased with his form.
"I've had a really tough time and it's not been a lot of fun, but today was more like it and I really want to play better golf.
"A lot of my business stuff is really running nicely now and I'm really looking forward to next week. I am close - my swing feels good and I've made big strides in my putting."
