Monty pulls out of BMW International
21/06/2007
Colin Montgomerie has pulled out of the BMW International Open in Munich because of a stomach bug.
The veteran Scot has struggled in his last two tournaments, finishing tied for 118th place at the BA-CA Open in Austria two week's ago before missing the cut at last week's challenging US Open at Oakmont.
And Montgomerie's manager, Guy Kinnings, said the world number 45 would not take part in this weekend's European Tour event in Germany in order to recover from his illness.
"He was sick overnight Tuesday and all day yesterday," Kinnings said.
"After pulling out of the pro-am he was booked on a later flight, but was still not feeling well enough to travel."
Montgomerie joins big-hitting American John Daly on the sidelines, who had withdrawn from the tournament earlier this week, citing "personal reasons".
The former Order of Merit winner had been due to unveil his latest temporary caddie in Munich – his second tournament since splitting with long-time bag-carrier Alastair McLean after his failure in Austria.
However it now seems Montgomerie will have a permanent caddie in place by the time he next tees off, as it was revealed that a shortlist of possible replacements for McLean has been drawn up and will be whittled down to one by early next week.
