Monty takes Casey's caddie "permanently"
28/06/2007
Colin Montgomerie's new temporary caddie Craig Connolly is actually a permanent appointment, according to his manager Guy Kinnings.
Connolly will carry his fellow Scotsman's bag during the upcoming French Open and was thought to be only a temporary replacement for former caddie Alastair McLean.
However Kinnings said that Connolly, who is a close friend of Englishman Paul Casey and worked alongside him for three years, would be a permanent fixture for Montgomerie during tournaments.
"The intention is that the appointment should be permanent," Kinnings told Reuters.
"Certainly it is intended that it should be long-term."
Since splitting with long-term caddie McLean earlier this season, Montgomerie's game has struggled to recover amid the upheaval.
He missed the cut at the US Open the first tournament without McLean when he hired local caddie Billy Goddard to carry his clubs. That followed another missed cut at the Austrian Open the week before.
As a result of his poor form, which has seen him without a tournament win all year, former European Tour Order of Merit-winner Montgomerie is now ranked a lowly 48th in the world.
