Murphy and Fasth maintain Mallorca advantage
22/10/2006
Ireland's Gary Murphy and Sweden's Niclas Fasth maintained their lead in the Mallorca classic as both men shot an even round leaving them on three under.
The pair have carded identical scores for every round and have a one shot advantage over Australia's Peter O'Malley.
Murphy managed to stretch his lead in the opening part of his third round, making birdies on the first and sixth holes.
However his advantage did not last long as he made three bogeys around the turn, though a birdie at 14 put him back on par and tied for the lead once more.
He said: "I'm a bit surprised to still be leading as the conditions were a lot better but it's so easy to drop silly shots out there and that's what I was trying to avoid doing."
Spain's Carlos Rodiles shot the low round score of six under but came from so far back that he is still five shots off the leaders.
Countryman Sergio Garcia is probably the biggest name in the field and is three shots back having carded his third par score in a row.
After his round he said: "There were a lot of good shots but unfortunately a couple of bad ones and I couldn't really get anything going."
Garcia still believes that he has a realistic chance of taking the title as the changeable weather conditions make it hard to shoot very low scores.
