Norman to make decision over PGA invitation
23/07/2008
Veteran Greg Norman has received an invitation to play at the US PGA Championship next month following his third-place finish at the Open last week.
The 53-year-old Australian has been invited by the organisers at Oakland Hills to participate in the main PGA Tour event, which begins on August 7th.
However, Norman is due to play in the Seniors Open at Royal Troon that weekend in what will be a star-studded field.
Five-time Open winner Tom Watson will be defending his title, with a number of other big-name seniors - including 20 former major winners - also playing.
"I already have something else on my schedule then, but I don't want to hold up the PGA," Norman said.
"I have to make a decision."
Norman went into the final round of the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale in the lead and with a good chance of victory after being paired with reigning champion Padraig Harrington.
However, a disappointing final round of 77, coupled with the Irishman's excellent one-under-par 69, meant Norman missed out and eventually finished in a tie for third with Sweden's Henrik Stenson. Englishman Ian Poulter came second.
