O'Hair leads Players' Championship
13/05/2007
Sean O'Hair has carded a six-under-par third round to take the lead of the Players' Championship at Sawgrass, leaving him on nine-under-par with one round remaining.
O'Hair is one shot ahead of overnight leader Phil Mickelson and two strokes in front of Jeff Quinney and Australian Peter Lonard.
Having started the day tied for third place O'Hair moved quickly up the leaderboard thanks to four birdies on the opening nine holes.
Despite making two bogies at the start of the back nine he finished with three birdies, including one at the perilous 17th, to remain on top at the end of the round.
Looking ahead O'Hair said: "Tomorrow, all it is, is a round of golf and I've got to look at it that way. I need to go out there and play like I'm in my own world like the last two days."
Mickelson had an inconsistent day dropping shots soon after picking them up along the front nine. However, his play in the final holes evened out and he picked up birdies on the last two holes to stay in contention.
Quinney had the round of the day, shooting up the leaderboard from 26th place at the start of the day to third thanks to an eight-under round of 64 that was blemish-free.
Lonard held on to his place towards the top of the leaderboard thanks to an albatross at the par-five second hole. He picked up a further two birdies but was disappointed top drop a shot at the last.
England's Luke Donald is also in contention, four shots off the leader, after a third round 65 that included eight birdies and one bogey.
