Ogilvy and Jimenez lead WGC-CA Championship after round one

21/03/2008

Geoff Ogilvy and Miguel Angel Jimenez share the lead of the World Golf Championship event in Miami on seven-under-par after day one of the tournament.

The pair are one shot ahead of Stewart Cink while Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson head a group of five players on five-under-par.

Ogilvy completed an error-free round picking up five birdies on the front nine and a further two on the back nine to lead the way after the first round.

Jimenez was able to keep pace with the Australian after hitting a fine patch of form himself. The Spaniard made an eagle at the first hole before claiming two birdies and a bogey before he reached the turn.

He holed four more birdies on the last nine holes to push himself ahead of Woods and the other challengers.

Woods himself had the chance to be closer to the leaders but made a bogey on the 18th green after three-putting.

The world number one had made three birdies between the 14th and 17th holes and was annoyed with himself for making the slip-up at the last hole.

He said: "You three-putt 18, you're not going to be happy."

But Woods is also optimistic that he can improve on his first-round score, adding: "I just kind of hung in there and took care of the par-fives, and made a couple of other birdies here and there."

English pair Luke Donald and Ross Fisher are in contention after the first round. Both men are tied for ninth place on four-under-par, three shots off the leaders.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18519678-ADNFCR
