Ogilvy maintains WGC lead as tournament heads into fifth day

24/03/2008

Geoff Ogilvy has a slender lead of two strokes in the WGC CA Championships midway through the final round.

Play was suspended early for the second consecutive day with the Australian leading the field on 17-under-par.

Ogilvy has been at the top of the leaderboard from round one and has made very few mistakes as he bids to land his second career WGC title.

The 30-year-old is currently two shots ahead of Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh. England's Graeme Storm and South Africa's Retief Goosen are one shot further adrift on 14-under-par.

World number one Tiger Woods has dropped back off the pace after carding an even-par third round.

Woods had been in contention for his eighth consecutive PGA tour title but an inconsistent start to his final round appears to have hit his chances.

The defending champion opened with two birdies on day four but then bogeyed the third and fourth holes. Birdies at the sixth and eighth were followed by another dropped shot at the ninth, leaving him on 12-under when play was suspended.

Ogilvy finished his third round with two more birdies to extend his advantage on the fourth day and then holed a birdie at the first as he began his final round.

The Australian also birdied the sixth before dropping his first shot of the tournament at the seventh. He had completed nine holes before rain hit the Doral course.

Ogilvy will hope to maintain the form he has shown throughout the week when the final few holes are played on Monday in Miami.ADNFCR-8000014-ID-18519808-ADNFCR
