Perry overhauls Goggin to win Memorial
02/06/2008
American golfer Kenny Perry has won the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio by two shots after carding a 69 on the final day.
Perry reigned in Australia's Mathew Goggin, who held a three-shot lead going into the fourth round at Muirfield Village.
But the pressure told as he slumped to a two-over-par 74 to drop back into a tie for second.
Among the group of four players who finished on six under par overall behind Perry was England's Justin Rose, who carded a solid one-under-par round of 71 on Sunday.
American Jerry Kelly and Canada's Mike Weir, who were both tied with Perry and Rose in second place after three rounds, both matched Rose's effort of 71.
Another Englishman, Luke Donald, could manage no better than a one-over-par 73 to finish tied for sixth with Americans Rocco Mediate and Steve Lowery, while Australia's Geoff Ogilvy dropped two shots in his round of 74 to finish ninth overall.
