Perry shares lead at Buick
30/06/2007
Kenny Perry has carded a round of 61 to join Jim Furyk and Brett Quigley for a tie of the lead on ten-under-par at the Buick Open in Michigan.
Perry began the day in 73rd place but a round that included eight birdies and an eagle catapulted him up to the top of the leaderboard.
The American began on the tenth tee and picked up five of his birdies in the first seven holes. He maintained that form on the front nine, reaching eight under through 15 holes.
He then eagled the par-five seventh hole to become the co-leader but squandered the chance to lead going into day three by bogeying his final hole.
But the 46-year-old remained upbeat, he said: "Great day for me. I drove it beautifully, had a lot of opportunities and took advantage of them. It was a fun round."
Furyk, who is the highest ranked player in the tournament, had a solid day adding a round of four-under to the 66 he carded on day one.
The world number three picked up six birdies but was left to rue two dropped shots on the back nine that could have extended his advantage.
It was a similar story for Quigley. Three birdies on the front nine followed by another at the tenth hole put the 37-year-old in control but he bogeyed the par-five 16th hole after firing his tee shot into an oak tree.
Quigley's best finish on the PGA tour is second, but the American feels he still has as good a chance as anyone to pick up the trophy.
