Rose and Donald in contention at Memorial
30/05/2008
English golfers Luke Donald and Justin Rose are well poised after the first round of the Memorial Tournament in Ohio, which Australia's Matthew Goggin leads.
The British duo both carded rounds of four under par to sit tied for sixth heading into the second day's play at Muirfield Village, with Americans Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney and Sweden's Carl Pettersson also in the group.
Goggin leads after a superb seven-under-par round of 65 on the first day, which saw him card eight birdies and just one bogey and take just nine putts to complete his second nine holes.
Kenny Perry and Jerry Kelly, both of the United States, are tied for second on six under par, with another American, Brett Quigley, and Goggin's countryman Rod Pampling a further shot back in fourth.
Another Englishman, Brian Davis, is on two under par with a number of other big names well-poised.
Robert Allenby is in a tie for 11th on three under par, alongside Joe Ogilvie and Geoff Ogilvy, with Pat Perez, Nick O'Hern and Steve Lowery joining Davis in a tie for 14th.
