Rose collapse gifts Furyk home win
11/09/2006
Jim Furyk took advantage of a final-round collapse by Justin Rose to claim a narrow victory at the Canadian Open in Ontario.
The world number three fired a closing 65 to finish on 14-under-par overall, a score good enough for a one-shot winning margin over fellow American Bart Bryant.
Furyk is due to travel to Dublin for the forthcoming Ryder Cup clash and he admits this win ensures he makes the trip full of optimism.
"It's been a great year and I've still got some events left,' he said. "I'm probably putting more consistently. I've just kind of found a way to get the ball in the hole and score.'
He added: "Hopefully I can keep riding the wave. Obviously I can say I like the golf course because I won, but it's a great golf course I really enjoyed and to win the third-oldest national championship in the world on this course, it's just a very proud moment for me."
US-based Brit Rose had been leading since the opening day but a disastrous final-round 74 dashed his hopes of a maiden win on the PGA Tour.
The Johannesburg-born golfer carded three bogeys and a double bogey during his round with only one solitary birdie coming on the tenth.
