Rose remains in Canada contention
09/09/2006
England's Justin Rose is one shot off the lead at the halfway point of the Canadian Open in Ancester.
Rose, who led with American Jim Furyk after the first round, carded a one-over par round of 71 to drop to six-under.
He shares that berth with eight other players on six-under overall, including Furyk, who are all chasing the leading group of four on seven-under.
Those at the top of the leaderboard include Sweden's Jesper Parnevik, who went round on the second day in a two-under par 68, as did American duo Aaron Oberholser and Jonathan Byrd to join him on seven-under.
However, Colombia's Camilo Villegas made the biggest move of the day, carding seven birdies as he shot a six-under par round of 64 to move into tied-first place.
Chasing the quartet are the group of nine which includes Rose, South Africa's Trevor Immelman and American Brett Quigley.
Quigley shot the round of the day as he fired a seven-under par 63, while Immelman shot a four-under par 66.
Elsewhere, England's Brian Davis shot a two-under par 68 to move to five-under par overall.
However, compatriot Greg Owen slipped back as he carded a two-over par 72 to drop to level-par overall, thereby just making the cut.
There was disappointment though for the home crowd as former US Open champion Mike Weir missed the cut by five shots.
The Canadian carded a four-over par second round to slump to five-over par.
