Rose withdraws from Memorial event
28/05/2007
Justin Rose has pulled out of this week's Memorial Tournament in America as a precaution.
The Englishman will take a break in order to be ready for the US Open at Oakmont on June 14th.
Rose, 26, agonisingly missed out on winning the PGA Championship last night to Denmark's Andres Hansen.
He lost on the first sudden death playoff hole at Wentworth in his first tournament in England in three years.
Rose insisted he is not suffering from the back injury that has seen him take part in just two tournaments since February.
"I'm just being cautious," Rose said.
"I'm taking advice from my trainer and just trying to get myself stronger.
"I'm still comfortable with my game. It doesn't take me long to fire up the engines again and it's certainly been a benefit being fresh.
"But I have to give it some time fitness-wise in the gym to cope with a full playing schedule. I'm going to dedicate the next couple of weeks to really getting myself 100 per cent."
Rose and Hansen both finished on eight under at Wentworth with the Dane sinking a 12-foot putt to clinch his second PGA Championship, having won the trophy in 2002.
The PGA Championships was Rose's first tournament in five weeks since playing The Masters at Augusta.
