Scott battles weather to lead at St Jude
09/06/2007
Australia's Adam Scott has a one-shot lead after a rain-affected second round of the Stanford St Jude Championship.
Scott, who began the day tied at the top of the leaderboard with Swede Frederik Jacobson, moved ahead of his rivals after dodging the showers to card a 66.
American Brian Gay has kept up his pursuit with an identical score to finish just a shot behind on six-under.
The leading two are a fair distance from the rest of the field with Jacobson tied for third with Britain's Brian Davis and a group of four Americans; Scott Verplank, Duffy Waldorf, David Toms and Woody Austin.
However the Tennessee course was dogged by thunderstorms and 26 competitors have been forced to resume their rounds tomorrow morning.
One of those, Australia's Andrew Buckle, is on six-under with three holes left to play and will be aiming to overtake his countryman once he is allowed back out to finish off.
Scott himself had a brief wait for some heavy rain to pass before he could complete the final two holes of his round and admits that the conditions add an extra element to the tournament.
"It's never ideal, but it's something you have to get used to because we seem to do it a lot on tour. You just have to learn to relax and try to come out with a fresh mind," he said.
