Scott stretches lead
05/11/2006
Adam Scott stretched his overnight lead by shooting a three under third round that left him at -7 at PGA Tour Championship, ahead of one-time joint leaders Joe Durant and Vijay Singh.
The Australian has been solid all week and kept his momentum going with a birdie at the first hole. He then made par the rest of the way until he reached the back nine.
Having dropped a shot at 13 he then made amends on the very next hole with another birdie. But the best was yet to come as he made an unlikely eagle at the par five 15th.
Although Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have chosen to miss the event there are still a host of top players bearing down on Scott, the closest at present being Singh.
Singh shot the round of the day to finish at -4 for the tournament having started the day at one over. Most of his birdies came on the back nine.
He said: "I hit some really good shots and made some nice putts. I got a new driver this week and started to drive the ball pretty well."
Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen are both tied at -3 while England's Luke Donald and South African Ernie Els are both tied at -1. The fact that all these players made their move on Saturday amused Singh who said the tournament was still up for grabs.
Scott remained calm and said he felt he was in a great position but would have to knuckle down seeing all the big names creeping up the leaderboard.
