Scott wins Byron Nelson Championship in playoff
28/04/2008
Australia's Adam Scott has beaten American Ryan Moore in a playoff to win the Byron Nelson Championship in Texas.
Scott, the overnight leader going into the final day, endured a nervous final round of one over par including a double-bogey at the par-three fifth hole.
He also dropped shots at the first and 15th holes, but recovered to make a 71 after carding birdies at the seventh, 16th and 18th.
Moore began the day in a tie for second with Bart Bryant and looked in good touch as he picked up shots at the seventh, eighth, tenth, 16th and 17th holes.
Bogeys on the second, 13th and 14th holes dented his round slightly, but he still secured a playoff with Scott after finishing on seven under par overall.
However, it was the Australian who held his nerve as he holed a 48-foot putt on the third extra hole to seal the title.
Bryant dropped off the pace after starting out within touching distance of Scott, taking 72 strokes to complete his fourth round and finishing four shots adrift of the leaders.
Charley Hoffman and Kevin Sutherland were also tied for second heading into the final day but both fell away after enduring difficult rounds of four over par.
