Singh creeps into lead as Tiger stirs
09/07/2006
Vijay Singh has taken a two-stroke lead at the PGA Western Open in Illinois, after a steady three-under-par 68 in his third round.
Carl Pettersson, Mathew Goggin, Joe Ogilvie Stewart Cink and Trevor Immelman are all hot on his heels at nine under par, while Tiger Woods is ominously poised at eight under as he goes into his final round.
Woods' round included a stunning 35-foot eagle putt on hole 11 and there were clear signs that he is rediscovering the form that deserted him when he missed the cut at the US Open last month.
A number of other good putts and some outstanding approach play gave Woods a round of 66 and he now looks much happier with his game.
"It was nice to actually make some putts and piece together something out there," he said.
"Obviously at my last tournament I didn't do that so it's nice to feel I've made some progress."
Justin Rose is leading the English challengers at six under par following a brilliant round of 65. Luke Donald is just behind at five under par, with Brian Davis also in with a shout at four under.
