Singh on song in Boston
04/09/2006
Vijay Singh fired a stunning course-record 61 as he stormed to the clubhouse lead on day three of the Deutsche Bank Championship in Boston.
The veteran Fijian carded nine birdies and an eagle during his stunning round as he leapfrogged Tiger Woods and Justin Rose to reach 11 under overall.
World number one Woods and US-based Briton Rose, who had led overnight, share second on the leaderboard, three shots back from Singh.
Woods is seeking a fifth consecutive win this week but as he and Singh go head-to-head on today's final round, the Fijian is confident of coming out on top.
"That would be good," said the former world number one. "I'm not going to be thinking about his streak or beating him.
"I've been playing long enough to know that you don't go out there and worry about the guys who are playing with you. You worry about your own game and see what happens."
Woods lost a similar head-to-head with Singh two years ago and he added: "Hopefully, I can play a little better than last time.
"I just know that tomorrow, given that conditions are as soft as they are, I'm going to have to make some birdies."
