Strange leads after first round in Wales
30/05/2008
Australian Scott Strange leads after the first round of the Wales Open at Celtic Manor by one shot from Italy's Edoardo Molinari.
Strange carded an eight-under-par round of 63 on day one to establish a slim lead over the rest of the field.
Molinari managed a bogey-free round as he sits on seven under par after a 64 on the opening day.
India's Jeev Milkha Singh and Alvaro Velasco of Spain are tied for third on six-under, while England's Paul Waring and Ross McGowan and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin are among five players who are a further shot adrift.
Swede Robert Karlsson, who hopes to boost his Ryder Cup hopes with a good performance at Celtic Manor, remains in contention after a 67 on the first day with Nick Doherty of England equally well-placed.
