Tiger holes mammoth putt to continue winning streak
17/03/2008
Tiger Woods holed a 24-foot putt at the final hole to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational on ten-under par.
The world number one was level with fellow US player Ben Bryant on nine-under as the pair reached the final hole only for Woods to clinch a birdie with the huge putt, sealing his seventh tournament win in a row.
It was Woods' fifth win at Bay Hill - making him the first player in the history of the PGA Tour to win four tournaments at least five times - and marked six months of tournament successes, stretching back to the BMW Championship in Lemont.
And the 24-foot putt completed a dramatic comeback win for Woods, who had dropped the 20th position, seven shots off the lead, after the second day's play on Friday.
Bryant - who made par at the last to leave him tied with Woods - said he had a feeling the 13-time major winner would pull victory out of the bag.
"It didn't surprise me one bit," he explained. "What are you going to do? It was in his hands and he obviously hit a great putt.
"Out here on tour, we understand what he's doing, the magnitude of it," Bryant added. "I think the golf public in general doesn't get it, to be honest with you.
"It's just incredible. What he did today is another piece of evidence of this weird zone he's in, and he's been in like his whole life. I don't know how to explain it."
Lee Westwood was the highest-ranked British player, finishing eights shot off the lead on two under par.
