Torrential rain postpones Austria Open first round
05/06/2008
The first day's play at the Austria Open in Vienna has been postponed due to inclement weather over the course.
Heavy rainfall in the area over the last several days has resulted in flooding across several areas of the Fontana Golf Club.
Many of the fairways remain underwater, although improved conditions later today are likely to make play possible on Friday.
Tournament director Miguel Vidaor admitted that it had been "raining heavily since 5am" and that it did "not look good for the rest of the day".
The most recent information is that the first round will take place on Friday, with tee-off times remaining the same as were scheduled for today.
However, organisers must still make a decision over whether to continue with plans to stage the full four-round schedule or cut it down to three rounds and end on Sunday as originally planned.
