Trio share Memorial lead
01/06/2007
Sean O'Hair, Rod Pampling and Nick O'Hern took advantage of good conditions in Ohio to grab a share of the lead after the first round of the USPGA Memorial Tournament.
Australian pair Pampling and O'Hern joined American O'Hair in carding an impressive seven-under-par round of 65 and sit one shot clear of five players on six-under.
South African Ernie Els is one of those in the chasing pack, and he is joined by another Australian, Aaron Baddeley, and Americans Tim Herron, Bubba Watson and Ryan Moore.
The top-performing European players are Swedish pair Carl Pettersson and Fredrik Jacobson, with England's Ian Poulter also in contention but five shots off the lead after a tricky first round of 70.
Some top names making an appearance in Ohio have struggled so far however.
World number one Tiger Woods sits joint-30th with Poulter after carding a 70 in his first round, along with the seventh-ranked player on the year's money list Adam Scott, number ten Mark Calcavecchia and number 14 Jim Furyk. Vijay Singh is only one shot better off after a three-under 69.
Englishmen Luke Donald and Paul Casey both struggled too, carding a one-over-par 73 and an even-par 72 respectively ahead of the second round later today.
