Welshman Dredge storms to victory in Switzerland
10/09/2006
Welshman Bradley Dredge cruised to an eight-shot victory in the European Masters in Switzerland.
The victory margin was the biggest on the Tour this season as Dredge fired a final round of 67 to finish on 17-under-par at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club in the Swiss Alps.
Dredge clinches his second Tour victory this season, having held a two-shot lead going into the final round, and dropping only one shot on the 16th hole.
Germany's Marcel Siem and Italian Francesco Molinari were tied for second place on nine under.
Defending champion Sergio Garcia finished one stroke further back with Scotland's Marc Warren and Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen.
But Dredge stole the show and said afterwards he was relieved at claiming his first individual prize since 2003.
"I'm over the moon I have won again," he said.
"The win has been a bit overdue and is a reward for my patience. I was getting a bit frustrated, It is nice to come out this weekend, put two good rounds together and win."
Dredge started his round with three birdies and never looked like being toppled to lift his first solo trophy since the Madeira Island Open.
He famously partnered Stephen Dodd last year to victory at the World Golf Championships in Portugal.
The 33-year-old will reunite with Dodd in December to defend their World Cup title in Barbados in December.
