Woods and Singh set for showdown

05/05/2007

Bitter rivals Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh share the lead after the second round of the Wachovia Championship in North Carolina.

The world number one, who has never won the tournament, shot 68 to finish on six under along with Singh and American Arron Oberholser.

Fijian Singh shot 71 while Oberholser fired a round of 69, to be a stroke clear of the rest of the field.

Overnight leader Padraig Harrington plummeted down the leaderboard to three under after a nightmare round which included a triple-bogey seven on the 18th hole.

Woods, who found only five fairways, said he was pleased to finish at the top of the leaderboard despite a below-par display.

"I was struggling with my swing a little bit," Woods said.

"I had to keep focus on what I was doing. I didn't hit it very well and I've got to go fix a few things but I'm very pleased with my score," he added.

"I felt like I pretty much have maximised my two rounds here."

Despite only dropping one stroke on the final hole, Woods twice saw tee-shots sail into the tress prompting him to whack his bag with his driver in frustration.

Woods had three birdies through five holes and also saved par on five occasions with some pinpoint putting.

The American and Singh will be paired together for the third round this evening.

Competing Englishmen are well adrift with Lee Westwood at two over, Brian Davis a further stroke back, and Lee Donald at four over.
