Woods fires ominous warning to rivals over grand slam hopes
29/01/2008
World number one Tiger Woods believes achieving a grand slam of golf's four major tournaments in 2008 is "a possibility".
The American, who is the dominant force in the sport, has already achieved what is now referred to as the 'Tiger Slam' - holding all four major titles at any one time.
But he has now said he is "hitting the ball better" than he has done in previous years and can make a realistic attempt at winning all four modern major championships in one season - an achievement never yet managed by any golfer in history.
"I'm hitting shots that I never could hit before, even in 2000 [when he won the first three majors in the Tiger Slam]," Woods said after his fourth consecutive win in the season-opening Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines last week.
"Do I see it [the grand slam] as a possibility? Yes.
"I still have holes in my game that I need to fix and need to improve on. I just think that what I've been working on, I'm headed in the right direction."
And in an ominous warning to his opponents, Woods whose current total of major titles stands at 13 - believes his best years are yet to come.
"Hopefully my good years are still ahead of me," he said.
"The venues this year, I like all of them but I've liked all the venues before in the past.
"It's just a matter of getting your game coming together at the right time and getting all the right breaks. Hopefully you get lucky at the right times."
