Woods maintains Miami lead into final round

25/03/2007

Tiger Woods extended his lead to four shots after carding a third round of four-under at the World Golf Championships-CA Championship in Miami.

Woods opened with an eagle at the first and dropped a shot at the sixth before making two birdies at the seventh and eighth holes. He picked up another shot at the 16th in an otherwise level-par round the rest of the way.

After the round Woods said: "If you're leading, usually you're playing halfway decent. Hopefully, tomorrow I can handle my business."

Brett Wetterich heads the chasing pack after carding a round of five-under-par which elevated him from a tie for 15th place at the start of the day to second place heading into the final round.

Ernie Els had been set for a round of four-under before a bogey at the 12th and a double-bogey at the final hole caused his chances a setback. He now lies at five-under for the tournament with a group of players that includes Vijay Singh and Charles Howell III.

Englishman Paul Casey is a further shot behind that group having gone round in 66 to put himself back in contention heading into the final round.

The talking point of the day surrounded Sergio Garcia who carded a round of one-under but was frustrated at the amount of chances he was spurning with his putter.

On the 13th green having three-putted for a bogey he spat into the hole, leaving onlookers shocked.

Garcia said: "I just missed the putt and I wasn't too happy. Don't worry. It did go in the middle [of the cup] and wasn't going to affect anyone else. If it did, I would have wiped it off."
