Woods maintains pressure on Ogilvy in WGC in Miami
22/03/2008
Tiger Woods continued his push for an eighth successive victory on the PGA tour after carding a second round of 66 at the WGC-CA Championship.
Woods is one shot behind leader Geoff Ogilvy who maintained his presence at the top of the leaderboard with a round of five-under-par on day two.
Australian Adam Scott is three shots behind compatriot Ogilvy, on nine-under for the tournament, while the rest of the field are at least six shots adrift of the leader who is on 12-under.
Ogilvy carded another mistake-free round to keep his overnight lead. The 30-year-old made birdies at the first, third, fifth, tenth and 15th holes to stay ahead of Woods.
The world number one managed to recover from his dropped shot at the 18th in his first round with an eagle at the opening hole on day two.
He then overcame a bogey at the third hole to post three birdies and an eagle to keep the pressure on Ogilvy.
Woods has won the CA Championship for the last three years and Ogilvy knows he has a tough task ahead of him if he is to claim the title for himself.
He said: "He [Woods] hasn't lost too many when in contention after two rounds. He hasn't lost too many at Doral. There's a lot of things in his favour."
However, the Australian conceded that he was enjoying partnering Woods.
"How can you not enjoy playing with the guy who's on his way to being the best golfer of all time?" Ogilvy said. "It's a thrill."
Luke Donald is still the best-placed Briton but is eight shots behind Ogilvy after carding a round of even-par.
